hey, im just thinking now that a 24" build will suit me a bit more, so im gonna redesign it. target weight for this is 3.5lbs but no less. ill be running a marz dj1 on it, mtb bb, mtb hub, and im drawing up a removable disc brake mount. and can you do removable cable guides?

norcorulz wrote

norcorulz wrote
Nov 6, 2009 at 1:09
oh and im aiming for 100mm travel but im thinking i might want 2 shock mounting positions and the second has a bit more if i decide to get a fox 36 for it. not sure if i said this but im thinking of getting the weight to be 5.5-6lbs frame only

norcorulz wrote
Nov 6, 2009 at 1:07
im using a marzocchi dj1 and the wheelbase i still need to figure out. i was also thinking of using straight gueage tubing for the downtube and chainstays while the top tube, seat tube and chainstays maybe use triple butted chromoly. need to figure out the dropouts and tubing thicknesses and ill send you the numbers once i get the money

norcorulz wrote
Nov 5, 2009 at 2:28
head angle: 70
seat tube angle: 75 (may be bent to accomodate rear wheel)
chainstay length: 380mm
effective tt: 570mm
seat tube length: 380mm
seat post diameter: 27.2mm
bb height: 330mm

norcorulz wrote
Nov 4, 2009 at 22:33
yeah ill get on that. i still need clearance for at least a 2.1" tyre so ill do some math and get back to you

heres an inital design on bikecad i threw together. definitly not the final but would you ba able to place the linkage where it is?

norcorulz wrote
Oct 29, 2009 at 22:21
haha yeah this is a major project so geo is all up to me. ive been going on bikecad and fscad and ive got some designs with a few mms clearance when bottomed out. ill try keep the chai/seat stays as straight as possible and a link on bothsides of the seat tube with a cross bar between them connecting to the shock. pretty much like a transition just a downtube mounted shock and bb pivot ill put some pics up soon please tell me what you think

norcorulz wrote
Oct 29, 2009 at 1:52
yeah i know. triple butted sounds good maybe get it to 5.5 cos on second thought 5 lbs would just be too twitchy for freeride. but ive got the geo figured out and shock placmemnt will be on the down tube most likely. would you recommend having a bent seat tube to prevent the tyre buzzing the post when bottoming out?

norcorulz wrote
Oct 28, 2009 at 3:52
sweet thanks. i should be getting a shock around xmas. im most likely going to use a 6x1.5" shock. my target weight for the frame is 5-5.5lbs is that do-able for a slopestyle/light freeride bike?

norcorulz wrote
Oct 27, 2009 at 22:39
yeah saw it that thing is sick. for my one id like a more traditional style head tube/tt junction and maybe get rid of that linkage between the main pivot and the top pivot. pretty much a tranny double but a bb pivot and made of chromo Razz

Hello bud. I see you're from Perth? I have relations that live there and they have offered me the opportunity to go over and stay there for a while in your summer/my winter. Could you tell me what races/ places to ride are within a couple hours driving distance from Perth?

The frame is about done yes, and has been tested. Some modifications were made, including tilting the seattube backvards for a better pedaling position and added tyreclearance at the seatstays to give room for a fender (the bike will be frequently used for commuting). It is currently disassembled as hosemounts and cablestops are being braced in place, after which it will be powdercoated. I'll post new pics when it's reassembled.

Yea i dont think it is going anywhere. Bomb proof frame right there. Definitely over did it , and i knew that as soon as i lifted some other frames at bike shops. Hopefully i will get together some of the expensive tools to build some more in the future. You do all the machining and welding?

nicko17 wrote
Aug 16, 2009 at 20:27
Rod was 3/32 , i should have used 1/16 cause its hard to keep a small bead with larger wire. Either way i kinda over did it on everything.

nicko17 wrote
Aug 16, 2009 at 20:24
Tubing is 1/16" wall. Its not so much the tubing , its the head tube,BB , and dropouts that are heavy. I could have made them alot lighter.

nicko17 wrote
Aug 16, 2009 at 19:43
Thanks, everything was done by myself, welding, machining, design. Overall i think it turned out decent for my first frame , it is on the heavy side. When design/machining everything i wasn't going for light , just strong. I want to build more , but im limited on tools now.
